Jennifer Whitty is a designer, educator and researcher, and Senior Lecturer in Design at Auckland University of Technology, Aotearoa New Zealand. She is also Visiting Professor at Xi’an Polytechnic University, China, and has worked with the United Nations on sustainable fashion and systems change.
Her work takes a decolonial approach to fashion and sustainability, questioning dominant models of production, consumption and growth, and exploring how design can intervene across the entire value chain.
Drawing on Irish, Indigenous and East Asian knowledge traditions, she examines clothing and textiles as sites of memory, relational responsibility and ecological belonging, with a focus on care.
