In this webinar Winiswa Mavutha will talk about an important topic of decolonisation in fashion education.
This webinar will address three interconnected area:
Epistemology: questioning whose knowledge is recognised and legitimised in fashion education.
Fashion education: examining curricula, pedagogy, research and the inclusion of African, Indigenous and local knowledge systems.
Sustainable consumption: exploring how culturally grounded knowledge and practices such as reuse, repair, upcycling, local production and responsible consumption can contribute to sustainable fashion futures.
The topic provides a strong foundation for discussing epistemic justice, curriculum decolonisation, Indigenous knowledge, African fashion practices, multilingualism and sustainable consumption within the Sustainable Fashion Consumption Network.
About the Speaker:
Winiswa Mavutha is a South African academic, researcher, and curriculum specialist in the fields of Apparel Technology, Textile Science, Entrepreneurship, Retail Management, and Operations Management. She currently serves as a Lecturer and Programme Co-ordinator for the Advanced Diploma in Apparel Technology at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), where she lectures across undergraduate and postgraduate modules including Research Methodology, Textiles, Applied Apparel Textiles, and Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management, Operations Management, Retail Systems. Her excellence in teaching and entrepreneurship has been formally recognised through several awards.
