For our next webinar on “Digital Product Passports in Fashion: Opportunities, Challenges and Strategic Implications”, please join Dr. Rosy Boardman for an online presentation of her research on Digital Product Passports.
Description: Digital Product Passports (DPPs) are set to become a major requirement for the fashion industry under forthcoming EU regulation, yet their implementation presents significant challenges for brands, suppliers and policymakers. Drawing on the latest academic research, industry evidence and policy developments, this webinar explores the practical realities of DPP adoption across fashion value chains, including challenges relating to supply chain transparency, data management, technology integration, governance, stakeholder engagement and implementation costs, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It also examines the opportunities DPPs offer to support sustainability, circularity and consumer trust, while considering how brands can use DPPs to create strategic value through enhanced transparency, storytelling and customer engagement. Designed for policymakers, businesses and academics, the session provides an evidence-based perspective on how DPPs may reshape the future of the fashion industry
About the Speaker: Dr Rosy Boardman is a Reader in Fashion Business at the University of Manchester, where her research focuses on how digital technologies can drive more sustainable and equitable outcomes in the fashion industry. She is one of the UK’s leading academic voices on digital product passports, examining how they should be designed and communicated to consumers to drive genuine behaviour change, how supplier perspectives can be meaningfully built into them, and how to keep consumers engaged with them over time. Her research directly informs how brands, policymakers, and designers should be approaching implementation. She brings both academic rigour and a practical, people-centred perspective to one of the most pressing challenges facing the fashion industry today.
A qualitative researcher and eye-tracking specialist, Dr Boardman collaborates with academics internationally and has secured competitive funding from major research councils, including the Leverhulme Trust. She has published widely in leading peer-reviewed journals such as Psychology & Marketing (SJR Q1, ABS 3*), Information, Technology & People (SJR Q1, ABS 3*) and European Sport Management Quarterly (SJR Q1, ABS 3*) and authored six books. Her research has informed industry practice through projects with local companies, global brands, and policy makers, contributing to positive social and environmental impact.
Dr Boardman has successfully supervised sixteen postgraduate research students to date and serves as Deputy Editor of the Journal of Fashion Marketing and Management.
