Title: Academic Researcher

Dr Rosy Boardman is a Reader in Fashion Business at The University of Manchester. Her research investigates how emerging digital technologies - including AI, mobile technologies, and data-driven platforms - can be designed and managed to advance social justice, support sustainable practices, and promote greater inclusion in society.

Her work primarily focuses on the fashion sector, from consumer behaviour and retail innovation to digital sustainability solutions such as Digital Product Passports and their role in improving environmental transparency. She also examines wider marketing and digital consumer cultures, including how online communities operate, how to design age-inclusive shopping technologies, and what interventions are needed to build safer, more inclusive social media environments that eradicate cyberbullying and online sexism. Her research aligns closely with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, with a central ambition to harness technological innovation to reduce inequalities and contribute to a fairer, greener society.

A qualitative researcher and trained eye-tracking specialist, Dr Boardman has published widely in leading peer-reviewed journals and is the author of six books. She has secured competitive research funding from major research councils, including the Leverhulme Trust, and collaborates internationally across academia, industry, and policy. Her work has informed practice within local companies and global brands, supporting improvements in social and environmental sustainability.

Dr Boardman has supervised sixteen postgraduate research students and serves as Deputy Editor of the Journal of Fashion Marketing and Management (SJR Q1).
