More specifically, Iryna is interested in the ordinary consumption practices from the past as a source for sustainable futures and in transdisciplinary research methodologies and pedagogies, which bridge design research and social sciences. Within her PhD project entitled 'Designing Engagements with Mending. An exploration of clothing repair practices in Western and post-Soviet contexts', Iryna investigated why, what, and how people mend within the domestic landscapes in Ukrainian and Danish contexts. In doing so, she employed wardrobe studies, participatory textile making, and different typologies of design research artifacts. Some of the artifacts she designed were included in the permanent collection of the Italian Observatory of Industrial Design (ADI) and were exhibited internationally.</image:title>

<image:title>Members - Helen O'Sullivan - I am a former secondary school teacher and FE and HE lecturer, delivering sustainability focused design education for over 15 years. My SDG’s focused curriculum design won a national award for environmental education. I have taught all ages from primary, secondary, FE, HE and adult learners. I previously worked in the mainstream fashion sector and have been campaigning for a sustainable fashion industry since 2007. I also run the online platform SustFashWales voluntarily, which aims to support fashion wearing citizens to address their own consumption and seek sustainable alternatives. Through this I am also part of a coalition working group, currently working with the Senedd Cymru/Welsh Government to address the impact of fashion in Wales. I am currently undertaking a PhD in sustainable fashion education, working with families, communities and primary schools to address the environmental and social impacts of fashion consumption. My research draws upon the critical pedagogical theories of Vygotsky’s social constructivism and Freire’s conscientização, examining how creative, participatory approaches can develop critical consciousness and active engagement with sustainable consumption of fashion. The aim of the research is to empower learners to challenge the colonial and capitalist structures of the contemporary fashion industry, through art and design-based practices such as creating textile artefacts and the use of cartoons. I have published some of my research and presented my findings at various national and international conferences such as the European Academy of Design in Finland and SCORAI in Sweden.</image:title>

<image:title>Members - Anikó Gál - Anikó Gál completed her Ph.D. in 2025, in Environmental Sustainability and Wellbeing at the University of Ferrara (Italy). Her main research areas include transitions and transition design, material culture, fashion theory, generational studies and research methods. In particular, she is interested in investigating how garments interact within human life—how they manifest and connect to deep values and needs; and how they reflect genuine self-exploration, kindness and connection within human communities. In her dissertation, “The culture of sustainability in fashion: exploring transitions through wardrobes in Eastern Europe” she carried out a qualitative study on everyday fashion practices of elderly people living in rural areas, offering insights into the use of garments in a marginalised area and age group. Her contribution underlines the cultural aspects of sustainability and of consumption. She held workshops and guest lectures at design universities, including the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, the Parsons School of Design in Paris and the Universidade Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellìn. She has published on topics such as desire and fashion, aesthetics and degrowth, wardrobe research and fashion narratives.</image:title>
